Roman Villa in Negrar, updates
/Here there is a quick update about the excavations at the Roman Villa in Negrar di Valpolicella (in this post we covered the news).
We were invited to a preview of the excavated archeological area, a few hundred meters to the North-east of the Negrar village. A large Roman Villa has been found there, part of a residential and part of a farm, with an area dedicated to a farm market. Some evidence suggests an established grape growing activity and a crushing and pressing place to produce wine.
Most of the excavations have been completed, said the archeologists involved. Now they are starting studying a great number of findings and some interesting grape seeds discovered there. The aim here is to deepen the knowledge of the aspects of the Roman agriculture and economy of the times, especially those related to wine production and trade.
The expectations to open the site to the public are very optimistic, but we think that almost 1 year more will be needed in order to prepare the site for tourists.
