The Valpolicella withering: next Intangible UNESCO Cultural Heritage?
Every wine lover who appreciates Amarone della Valpolicella, Ripasso, and Recioto della Valpolicella knows it: the secret behind all those successful wines is the technique of withering the grapes. This technique isn’t exclusive to Valpolicella: other Italian regions such as Sicily (Pantelleria mainly) or Lombardy, or even other countries (Spain, France) have been adopting it for centuries. However, the withering - appassimento - in Valpolicella is somehow different.
Anteprima Amarone 2022: see you in June
It’s not time - yet - to show off the new vintage of Amarone della Valpolicella ready to be sold. Thus Anteprima Amarone (Amarone Preview), the traditional wine event reserved for the iconic red wine from dried grapes, has been postponed to June.
Amarone Preview 2021: the digital edition
The Amarone -fans know it: between January and February usually, the Amarone Preview event has always been organized in Verona downtown. Regrettably, this year is impossible to hold it — you guess the reason —, so the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella has decided to organize a completely digital edition. It is scheduled for February 26th and 27th 2021.
Amarone della Valpolicella, it's tasting time!
Amarone della Valpolicella is not your ideal wine when the temperature rises, but is perfect when outside the frost covers the fields. Thus, if you are going to buy a good bottle of Amarone, maybe this is the right moment to do it, because in this second half of January there are two important events in Verona: "Amarone in Villa" and "Anteprima Amarone DOCG". Both are good opportunities to taste many different bottles of Amarone della Valpolicella, made by almost every producer of Valpolicella...

An "historical", unusual vertical tasting
Just the day before the official opening of Anteprima Amarone 2010, the Villa de Winckels Hotel Restaurant hosted its traditional edition of “Amarone in Villa”, a big tasting with the most important wineries in Valpolicella.
The event was also the occasion to organize - thanks to the collaboration of Wine Meridian, a new wine magazine online, - an unusual vertical tasting of Amarone della Valpolicella from many different wine producers: from 2003 till 1960, going back in the time.
For any wine lover, this was a must, because it’s really tough to attend to this kind of tasting, I mean, with very old bottles…
Are you wondering why?
Well, likely there is more than one reason, but IMHO the main two are the following...
